It was a steamy summer evening…

as the crowd gathered on the back lawn of the Vincentown Library to celebrate the first ever Frog Jump, organized by Mrs Pew (aka Ms Kim).  Yes indeed, it was an evening to remember.  Registration was brisk with the number of entries topping at a grand total of 31!  Froggy, Astro, Leo, Sonic, Bunz, Beans, Bob Ross, Bob Ross Jr., and Fiona (to name just a few) were all proudly entered into the event by their Frog Jockeys.

Enthusiasm and nervousness built as Ms Kim proceeded to explain the rules to the contestants.

The jumps were to be measured (almost accurately) by the expert  team of Professor Bullfrog and Amphibious with their highly technical equipment.

As each contestant stepped up to the line to jump, a hush grew over the crowd. Some of the frogs had to be sweet talked into a jump by their frog jockey and others seemed to know the game and took off jumping in all directions.  Midway into the  competition a young 8 year old girl, by the name of Brynn, stepped forward with her frog Fiona, clasped in her hands.  Upon setting Fiona upon the starting point, the crowd gasped!  No Bull!  This frog Fiona, was easily 10 times the size of all other contestants!

Well, the results were tallied and there’s probably no reason to reveal the winner of the farthest jump…

Thanks to Mrs Pew (aka Ms Kim) and the Southampton Girl Scouts and the able crew registering, measuring and tallying the competition.

Medals for longest jump in under 6 age group; over 6 age group and a medal awarded for the longest 1st recorded jump (both age groups included)

Alex & Buns (Longest combined jumps under 6 (**55 inches)

Kids are invited to join our Bike Brigade. We’ll be decorating bikes behind library at about 9:15 a.m., then gather for the parade by 10 a.m. (Hopefully we’ll have a good spot in the line-up!)

Save the date…

Save the date!

We’re getting ready here at the library for Saturday, May 7, 2022 – Arts in the Village Market Day is back!

Kids, please stop by the library before to help us design paper birds that will create our own special work of art behind the library!

Once again, this year, the library will be holding a GIANT book sale. Browse the books, then grab a cup of coffee, a delicious baked snack and sit down and relax at Sally’s Cafe!

Sunday is Mother’s Day – Kids are invited (between 10am-2pm) to create a beautiful bracelet or fan and card for Mom on her special day.

Spring!

It looks like it should be another beautiful spring week and we’re continuing to celebrate with new books, fun crafts and getting outdoors to enjoy this wonderful season!

Our 4 & 5 year old artists painted a Spring Meadow last week – without paintbrushes!

This past Thursday was the perfect day for making and flying kites!
Ready to fly!

Next week is spring break for many of the schools in the area. Ms. Kim will be on vacation so the regular Wednesday Story Hours will be cancelled, as will the Thursday Story/Art.

But, be sure to stop by and say HELLO to Ms. Gwenn, pick up a few books for your holiday reading, and see what kind of project might be in store.

Looking Ahead…

Next month is going to be full of activity in town and at the library.

Arts in the Village is May 7th. Main Street will be closed to traffic and filled with artists and craftsmen, plants, food and music! Details soon…

That day, here at the library, we’ll be having a book sale, Sally’s Cafe and a Mother’s Day craft for the kids.

And don’t forget about the Memorial Day Parade. Once again, the library will be having the Bike Brigade. Children are invited to come before the parade and decorate their bicycles to ride in the parade. Or bring your bike already decorated.

Be sure to stop by the library for Lemonade and cookies after (or during) the parade!
