2024 COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD WINNER

The Board of Trustees is pleased to announce the winner of the 2024 Community Service Award – Lindy Thomas! Lindy served as a teacher and librarian in the Southampton School District for 35 years. She is the author of “A Child’s Scrapbook of Vincentown,” written in 1987, published in 1990, and redone in 2019.

Ms. Thomas is a member of the Southampton Historical Society serving as a trustee for over 10 years.  She contributes to the Society’s newsletter “Hello Central” with monthly columns detailing local history of our area.  In addition, she serves as a docent at the old schoolhouse on Race St. for the annual 3rd grade tour sponsored by the Historical Society.

Ms. Thomas is an active member of the Vincentown Methodist Church where she contributes her time to various charitable events supported by the Church.  Most recently she procured a Ukrainian speaker for the Church and general public.  Due to her efforts, a Ukrainian Trust Chain was established and over $2000.00 was raised for the suffering people of Ukraine.

Lindy Thomas was a major part of the Southampton Schools 100th Anniversary celebration.  She prepared material for publication and promoted awareness of the Anniversary for all the citizens of Southampton. She has also spent many hours collecting items for gift baskets for the STAR Foundation golf outings.

We appreciate her kindness, commitment and generosity to her fellow citizens and community, as well as the time and talent she has devoted to the town she loves. With her service to others, Lindy Thomas makes our community a better place to live and enjoy.

Everyone is invited to come and celebrate Lindy on Tuesday, April 23rd at 7pm at the library. We will hold an award ceremony and have a reception with light refreshments immediately after.
